Personalize Your Product

Most family trees start with whoever is filling them in. This one has room for the generation before that — and the two after.

There is usually one person in a family who knows all of it. Who married whom, which town somebody left to get here, why a name keeps coming back every third generation. When that person stops being able to tell it, most of it goes with them.

This is fifteen pages for writing it down while it is still yours to write.

What is inside

  • The two of you, and your children — where the whole thing starts, with room for nine.
  • Two pages for grandchildren — grouped under whichever of your children they belong to. Room for twenty-four.
  • Where each side came from — a chart for parents and grandparents, one page for your side and one for your husband's or wife's, with space for the towns they came from.
  • Four pages for one person each — born when, born where, what they did for a living, and what you remember most about them.
  • The names we were given — who was named after whom, and which nicknames stuck.
  • The places we lived and the stories we always tell — the ones that come up every single time everyone is together.

How you use it

Start in the middle, not at the top. Begin with the people you know best and work outwards. Nobody fills a family tree in order.

Leave the gaps empty. A blank line is not a failure — it is a question you can ask at the next family gathering, while there is still somebody to ask.

Type into it, or print it. Tap any line on your phone or computer and start typing, then save the file. Or print it on plain letter paper; the writing lines are wide on purpose.

What you receive

  • Two PDF files — one sized for US Letter, one for A4
  • 15 pages, 161 fill-in lines, five generations
  • Sent to your inbox straight after checkout. Nothing is posted to you.

A digital file for your own family's use. Because nothing is shipped, it cannot be returned — but if anything is wrong with your download, write to us and we will put it right.

Questions before you order

Other memory journals list 300 questions. Why does this one have 143?
Because the number that matters is not how many questions a book asks - it is how many she actually finishes. This one is 203 pages for 143 questions, and 29 of them get a full two-page spread. A 154-page book with 325 questions gives her about half a page each. We would rather she answer 40 questions properly than leave 300 half-written.
Does she have to fill every page?
Not at all. One question a week is plenty, and skipping is built into how the book is written - not an apology for it.
What if she does not like to write much?
A sentence is a real answer. So is a list. The book says so on the first page.
Is it easy to write in?
Yes - large 13-14pt type, wide lines, and uncoated paper made for everyday pens.
When will it arrive?
Each book is printed to order just for you. Your estimated delivery date is shown at checkout.
Can I send it straight to her?
Yes. Enter her address as the shipping address at checkout and the book goes directly to her.
What if something is wrong with it?
Our 30-Day Promise: if it arrives damaged or misprinted - or you simply change your mind - email support@graceyears.com within 30 days for a replacement or full refund. You keep the book; there is nothing to ship back.
